Specific Responsibilities
The Environmental Air Specialist for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s EH&S team at the company’s Houston office reporting to the Environmental Lead in Houston.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following: • Permitting and evaluating compliance of both new and existing oil and gas sites; • Applying and reporting EPA Subpart W, Onshore Greenhouse Gas for production and gathering and boosting facilities; • Assisting with reporting requirements of NSPS OOOO/a/b • Determining applicability of OOOO/a/b for well sites, fugitive emissions, and storage vessels; • Maintain a database with facility locations, permit types and relevant equipment inventories; • Interfacing with regulatory agencies such as New Mexico Air Quality Bureau, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and Texas Railroad Commission on permitting and compliance issues; • Assist in state level annual emission reporting; • Prepare and submit deviation reports, excess emissions reports, STEERS, and NM AQBCR reports as required; • Knowledge of air emission modeling software such as ProMax, Screen3; • Experience with Intelex’s ACTs database solution; • Create and conduct training for Operations team on new regulations and internal initiatives; • Integrate with various Operations Teams as a subject matter expert; • Some US travel required; and • Support corporate Sustainability efforts in the US Onshore operating area.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience: • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Engineering. Other degrees will be considered • A Professional Geoscientist (PG), Certified Hazardous Material Manger (CHMM), Professional Engineer (PE) or other relevant certification is a plus • Permit experience in Texas should include Permit by Rule (PBR), Standard Permits and limited Title V. For New Mexico, experience should include No Permit Required (NPR) evaluations, Notice of Intent (NOI) and General Construction Permit (GCP) • Candidate should be experienced with the Onshore Greenhouse Gas Reporting rules for production facilities and natural gas gathering and boosting • Candidate should be familiar with engine testing and emission requirements related to engines (40 CFR 60 subpart JJJJ and 40 CFR 63 subpart ZZZZ) as well as state level requirements • Candidate should be familiar with EPA subpart OOOO/a/b rules as they apply to storage vessels, pneumatic devices, well sites, and fugitive emission monitoring for affected facilities • 5 years air permitting/compliance experience with an emphasis on upstream oil and gas operations • Able to work in an environment where numerous tasks requirements are constantly pressing • Able to prioritize work tasking • Strong communication skills with others • Ability to work remotely in alignment with Apache’s hybrid work schedule
