THE DEPARTMENT: The Engineering & Public Works Department oversees the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Storm Water and Environmental Compliance, Traffic Safety, and Engineering Permits, Plan Checks and Inspections for private development through the Engineering Division, and provides services and maintains the City’s Infrastructure which includes Parks, Streets, and Wastewater, Facilities, and Equipment Maintenance through the Public Works Division.
THE POSITION:
Under general supervision, to perform a wide variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and care of parks and other City-owned areas; clean and maintain equipment and facilities.
ALTERNATIVE WORK SCHEDULE: City employees work a 4/10 workweek, Monday through Thursday, 6 am to 4:30 pm., and may be assigned to support events on the weekends when needed. City offices are closed on Fridays. City facilities will also close for a period of approximately two weeks in December with time off for non-essential personnel.

Key Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are representative of those typically performed by positions assigned to this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these duties and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
Waters, mows, weeds, trims, renovates, and fertilizes lawns; rakes leaves.
Cleans walks, courts, fields, and other facilities.
Loads trimmings and cuttings onto trucks.
Plants, transplants, removes, fertilizes, cultivates, and waters landscaped areas.
Sprays flowers and ornamental and foundation shrubs.
Picks up paper and debris.
Operates power mowers, edgers, and other equipment.
Drives vehicles, as required.
Performs basic maintenance work, keeps tools and other supplies in proper condition.
Performs semi-skilled work in the construction and repair of structures and equipment.
Reports illegal activities and/or safety hazards to City law enforcement officers.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated experience in park or garden maintenance work.
Knowledge and Skills in: Methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in park maintenance work; safe work practices.
Ability to: Use common hand and power tools in a proper and safe manner; keep simple records; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; deal effectively with the public.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Perform heavy and physically demanding work for lengthy and continuous periods of time.
License Requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
