PURPOSE: To design, develop, research and evaluate welding consumables and associated processes; to conduct applied research into new areas of welding consumable design and/or on new welding processes.
JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)
- Develop hard facing, stainless and nickel welding consumables, welding processes and test methodologies and/or systems/processes in consideration of market needs, industry codes/standards, and manufacturing capabilities
- Provide product development and support with a primary focus on technology and product development and process improvement to ensure the consumable product lines deliver targeted performance and cost
- Work on customer sales opportunities by supporting alloy welding application solution development.
- Work with sales and product management to define product value propositions and assist with project completion tasks to make product available for sale.
- Facilitate development of manufacturing process capabilities to support introduction of new products
- Facilitate technology transfers among Lincoln subsidiary companies as needed
- Establish standards and methodologies for, and conduct evaluations of product performance, root cause analysis and warranty resolutions; develop/refine test methods, as applicable, to support new product development and product evaluations
- May provide task oriented direction to Technicians, Technologists
- Maintain records of all work in process and document interim and final results in the applicable format.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry; familiarity with materials analysis techniques
- Preferred 3 years of relevant experience for Engineer II and 5 years of relevant experience for Engineer III
- Experience must include: manufacturing processes, including welding or casting; arc- welding process optimization; material property characterization techniques, including metallography, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy; and characterization of ceramic and metal powders.
- Computer literate with working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS PowerPoint, as a minimum
- Working understanding of Design for Six Sigma and statistical Design of Experiments methodologies.
- Possesses and applies both practical and fundamental understanding of various arc welding processes
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Works effectively in a cross-functional team environment
- Selected candidate’s Job Level and Pay Grade will be determined based upon qualifications and experience.
