Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Assistant for the Child Health Institute of NJ at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction and supervision of the Dr. Derek Sant’Angelo and Lab Manager, student will learn a wide array of applied techniques relevant to their field of study. Applicant should have a broad (college-level) knowledge in relevant biological sciences including biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology and/or neuroscience. Applicant must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently, be able to conduct independent experiments, and prepare written and oral reports.
As part of their professional development to transition to the next phase of their career, the Student Assistant will be trained in improving their experimental design skills and their oral and written presentation skills. Multiple resources for career development to aid with these requirements will be provided by the PI.
This position is for the summer semester beginning June 3, 2024 through August 30, 2024. Applicant must be a current student in a graduate or undergraduate program within Rutgers or RBHS.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Assist in performing experiments related to cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or neuroscience.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.
- Compile and analyze data with appropriate statistical analysis, conclusions, and future directions in support of further CHI research.
- Adhere to established performance standards and coordination of experimental approaches in support of CHI research.
- Keep clear and detailed records of the analyses performed in accordance with laboratory guidelines, maintain data in shared and readily accessible locations, present data to the PI and other lab members.
- Assist the Principal Investigator with general lab maintenance duties, lab organization and supply ordering.
- Work collaboratively with laboratories and researchers within CHI and Rutgers.
