Your role at Clorox:
The purpose of the Fork Truck Operator role is to operate a powered forklift for the movement of raw materials and finished product throughout the facility and outdoors. Load and unload trailers, distribute commodities and raw materials, inventory management and operate the plant’s palletizer and related equipment. Starting pay rate: $23.71, plus differential
In this role, you will:
- Perform forklift inspections prior to use each shift.
- Safely distribute, relocate, and move raw materials throughout the plant according to production needs.
- Safely move and stack commodities and finished products in appropriate storage racks and/or storage locations.
- Conduct trailer safety inspections and follow trailer safety best practices.
- Load and unload trailers with finished product and raw materials through dock doors.
- Manage commodity inventory and storage locations with documentation and computer data entry.
- Change forklift batteries using overheads hoists while wearing required PPE.
- Secure loaded trailers using dunnage and air bags.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings, including pedestrian safety while operating fork lift.
- Empty production trash containers and operate the trash compactor.
- Empty cardboard containers and operate the cardboard compactor.
- Maintain housekeeping on a daily and weekly basis.
- Perform work area organization tasks.
- Become qualified to operate the palletizer and related equipment, including (but not limited to) pallet conveyors, case conveyors, pallet and case inspection/rejection system, stretch wrapper and skid ticket labeler.
- Communicate with peers and managers on departmental performance and issues related to safety, quality, production, and other departmental metrics and resource needs.
- Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Provide break and lunch relief if required.
- Work overtime, vacation, and absenteeism issues
- Ensure assigned PM’s, CIL’s, and centerlines and other checks are completed
- Identify equipment issues and write work orders to correct equipment issues
- Work with other departments (Zipper, Rotary, Disposer, Extrusion, Maintenance, Planning, etc.) to avoid or resolve disruptions to production.
- Complete all required training in a timely manner
- Train other fork truck operators as necessary
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Distribution Manager
What we look for:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Maintain a valid fork truck/lift license.
- Ability to understand instructions, work procedures, reason and make judgments, problem solve, plan, coordinate, execute, and direct own work while coping with a variety of duties.
- Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays, for up to 7 consecutive days.
- Ability to work occasional mandatory overtime shifts.
- Ability to communicate clearly and distinctly (oral and written) with peers and supervisors.
- Ability to perform effectively under stressful conditions, prioritizing job duties while working with team members.
- Ability to problem solve, making decisions quickly without direct supervision.
- Good mathematical aptitude is required to make accurate numerical measurements and calculate dimensions.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, driving to root cause.
- Ability to recognize, understand, analyze, and prioritize process failures.
- Demonstrate experience, proficient, with MS Excel and Word.
- Demonstrate experience using control charts and trends.
- Ability to problem solve, making decisions quickly without direct supervision.
- Must be knowledgeable of SAP system and be able to input production data into SAP system
- Must understand how to read the production schedule and how to obtain schedule changes.
- Must be able to properly process line returns and confirm counts, do cycle counts
- Must be able to perform basic PM’s such as bearing and chain lubrication, inspection of components for wear, etc.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to tolerate fixed position sitting up to 11 hours a day.
- Ability to perform occasional lifting and pushing/pulling of up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform occasional bending and squatting.
- Ability to tolerate non-weather related hot; and weather related cold and hot temperatures.
- Ability to frequently mount and dismount forklifts.
- Ability to utilize good eye-hand-foot coordination to operate foot pedals and hand controls.
- Ability to perform repetitive and/or sustained neck rotation while driving fork truck.
- Ability to walk up and down steps.
