The Akron Board of Education announces an anticipated opening for an Early Learning Program (ELP) Teacher, Job Code 006, TS 380 (190 Days), Salary Range TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit – AEA. QUALIFICATIONS - Required:
Valid Ohio Department of Education teaching licensure for Early Childhood and Early Childhood Intervention Specialist.
Desired:

A commitment to working with students, professionals, and community members in a multicultural setting;
Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative relationship with other teachers in the development of curriculum plans and materials;
Flexibility in scheduling and working with students and staff;

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Plan, implement, facilitate, and evaluate the educational program for preschool children with and without disabilities;
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of Preschool standards and establish clear objectives for the preschool experience;

Provide families with resources and embed routine activities to support IEP goals and objectives;
Work with parents and help them understand early childhood education and what they can do at home to extend classroom activities;
Document progress on IEP goals, consult with special education staff to collaborate on IEP goals and objectives for children when needed and prepare progress reports for assigned children;
Demonstrate physical and mental capabilities in working with preschool children;
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of Preschool standards and establish clear objectives for the preschool experiences;
Participate, as a member of the ELP evaluation team, in the evaluation process for children suspected of having a disability;
Create, prepare, and adapt materials, as needed, for preschool children;
Make immediate referral of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to proper authorities and notify ELP Coordinator;
Determines physical condition of children as it relates to management of communicable disease as stated in the preschool rules;
Manage assigned cases as the primary service provider;
Provide modeling of intervention and teaching techniques and strategies to other providers working with preschool students, as needed;
Lead communication between related service providers, districts, teachers and families;
Maintain updated individual records for each child and ensures their confidentiality;
Maintain a good working relationship with people in charge of community-based preschools, church centers, and public school preschools;
Attend pre-service, in-service, and required staff meetings;
Accept a share of responsibility for all program activities;
Reports and carries out any other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or the Early Learning Program Coordinator.
