Job Abstract

The Department of Environmental Protection is currently on the lookout for individuals who are passionate about safeguarding the well-being and environment of Pennsylvania's residents. As part of this role, you will be responsible for independently planning and carrying out inspections of waste water treatment and industrial facilities, both on your own and in collaboration with other regulatory bodies. You will also be tasked with compiling technical reports that are based on the outcomes of investigations, inspections, and data provided by dischargers. Additionally, you will play a key role in organizing and participating in cause and effect stream surveys, as well as monitoring water quality network stations. Another aspect of this position involves drafting violation notices based on observations made during fieldwork. Furthermore, you will be required to operate a state vehicle to travel to various locations where the aforementioned activities take place, as well as to appointments related to vehicle maintenance. Lastly, you will be conducting field tests such as pH levels, temperature readings, dissolved oxygen measurements, chlorine residual assessments, and conductivity tests as part of your duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown.
• Salary: Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,010 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
• A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
