IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, Vandenburg Air Force Base or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position.
This occupation requires the use of various processes using numerous types of materials on electronic hardware before, during, and after assembly. Methods and sequence of operation must be determined and shop aids improvised to produce critically toleranced parts on one of a kind type developmental, R&D, first article, or on short production runs.
Interpret Engineering drawings, specifications, sketches, verbal instructions, and rework instructions to determine proper materials, processing techniques, and quality
requirements.
Improvise shop aids to hold and position oddly configured parts, to dam materials, to mask untreated areas, to reach relatively inaccessible locations as required to facilitate
operations and meet Engineering requirements on one of a kind, short run, or rework hardware.
Clean hardware mechanically, by machine degreasing and/or by hand solvent application. Mask hardware to blueprint dimensions using precision measuring
equipment. Apply primers to hardware where required. Weigh out and thoroughly mix two part material compounds.
Adhesive bond and/or fillet components to boards and to boxes using hypodermic syringes or improvised dispensing techniques and magnifying equipment. Measure to
locate and improvise shop aids to hold component location during application and cure cycles.
Apply thin conformal coatings using air brush equipment and techniques; apply heavy conformal coatings, conductor coatings, and conductive coatings as required for spot, complete, or isolated coverage.
Mold or embed flex cables, wire cables, and harness connectors, headers and other electronic assemblies using precision project tooling or improvised shop aids and
pressurized dispensing equipment.
Impregnate or embed modules or coils using vacuum or pressurized dispensing equipment. Machine grind and/or hand sand to blueprint envelope dimensions and
tolerances after cure.
Cure applied materials to required temperature and time. Maintain records of cure cycles. Examine products visually during cure and repair noticeable defects. Verify product conformance to print and specification requirements using 10 to 30 power microscopes, ultraviolet light techniques and equipment, and precision measuring equipment. Repair any defects found.
Make electrical checks such as continuity and isolation as required. Rework nonconforming products per written and verbal instructions. Polymerics
