Job Abstract

Reporting to the Asset Protection Operations Manager, the Asset Protection Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations regarding incidents of lost company assets due to theft, negligence and policy and/or procedural non-compliance in all company locations. Additionally, the position will perform audits to assess compliance of Asset Protection and Safety policies and procedures, as well as participate in the training of employees on asset protection awareness and compliance. The Asset Protection Investigator is continually upholding and advancing the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance; 403(b) retirement plan; Paid Holidays, Paid Sick Leave and Paid Time Off. This position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc.

• Observes, reports, and corrects conditions which present a safety threat to employees, program participants and customers.
• Conducts investigations regarding incidents of lost company assets in Retail Stores, Donation Xpress facilities, Transportation Department and Goodwill’s family of NPO’s (Non Profit Organizations).
• Reviews transportation records including GPS tracking systems and initiates transportation investigations based upon indications of suspicious activity.
• Conducts interviews with Goodwill employees based upon incidents of loss, employee actions, or investigative intelligence.
• Determines resolution of Asset Protection investigations in concert with Asset Protection Managers and Human Resources.
• Participates in employee training and development while emphasizing asset protection awareness and practices.
• Stays within legal parameters in regards to citizen’s arrest as they pertain to employees prosecuted for theft.
• Prepares all required documentation for company records and responding law enforcement officers within set deadlines.
• Conducts employee bag checks and personal property inspections of staff in concert with Management and the Asset Protection Operations Manager.
• Conducts Asset Protection and Safety Audits as needed.
• Acts as witness to policy and investigation interviews as needed.

• Ensures compliance with all Goodwill Industries® Sacramento Valley Northern Nevada policies, CARF standards, and safety and security regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications of the Role:

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in an Asset Protection/Loss Prevention or Retail related field.
• Wicklander – Zulawski certification preferred.
• Must pass drug and background screening.
• Must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
• Must function collaboratively within a team environment, yet remain independently resourceful.
• Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics.
• Must have the ability to remain calm and focused during volatile situations
• Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States of America.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the Asset Protection Investigator job description with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must have the ability to work productively with minimal supervision.
• Must provide and maintain valid Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable on companies’ automobile policy.
• Must have access to reliable transportation that does not interfere with performing the essential functions of the job description, cause tardiness, or unexcused absences.
