POSITION: BioEngineering Technology Specialist
JOB LOCATION: 1978 W. Winton Ave., Hayward, CA 94545
Duties: BioEngineering Technology Specialist needed by Lonza Biologics Inc. in Hayward, CA to apply knowledge and experience globally across capital projects to drive harmonization and best practice utilization via creation and maintenance of design standards. Discover, explore, evaluate, and implement new technologies that bring marked benefit to cost and time reduction and yield improvement. Establish and maintain strong inter-site, inter-department ties, and collaborate with Manufacturing, MSAT, Automation, R&D, Engineering, Logistics, Quality Assurance, and EHS. Review design of facilities for mammalian cell culture production of biopharmaceuticals, upstream and downstream production. Contribute to growth projects at the feasibility, conceptual and basic design phases by working with the department representative/primary point of contact on active capital projects. Implement the determination of and delegation to appropriate team resource to achieve successful completion. Track deliverables via appropriate mechanisms and maintain appropriate communication between all involved parties. Review equipment list for adherence to available standards and secure adequate and approved deviation. Review concept report. Coordinate, participate, and document project peer reviews. Provide subject matter expertise. Review RFQs for adherence to standards and participate in HAZOP, FMEA, and GMP risk assessments, contributing to growth projects at the execution phase. Develop and maintain network design standards, User Requirement Specifications (URS), and equipment and sub-component specifications as needed and identified. Coordinate and execute data collection for 3-year review of growth projects. Perform preliminary data analysis for 3-year review. Manage the completion of projects within set quality, time, and budget constraints. Complete manufacture, engineer, or process engineer/technology. Design and operate Biopharmaceutical facilities, including Upstream Processing, in both manufacturing and support systems (cGMP manufacturing, pilot plant & laboratories).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent degree in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering or Life Sciences and five (5) years of progressive postbaccalaureate experience in the job offered or five (5) years of progressive postbaccalaureate experience in a related occupation in Biotechnology or similar manufacturing industry in manufacturing, engineering, or process engineering/technology; in the design and operation of Biopharmaceutical facilities, including Upstream Processing, in both manufacturing and support systems (cGMP manufacturing, pilot plant & laboratories).
