Arlington County is an exciting, innovative local government entity located in Northern Virginia. We are seeking highly motivated individuals for exciting one-year Internships in a variety of positions across the County. These positions offer a career opportunity to qualified individuals with little or no previous professional work experience to help them prepare for a career in a variety of fields of work. This Internship will provide recent college graduates and currently enrolled graduate students with in-depth, hands-on learning opportunities in areas critical to supporting local government initiatives while participating in a developmental and training cohort with peers.
Internship
Over the course of a year, Interns work under the mentorship and supervision of senior staff members to gain valuable on-the-job training and real-world work experience. They support the County's efforts to consistently work toward greater efficiency and effectiveness by offering improved processes and fresh ideas, and by leveraging smart technologies, while becoming familiar with the public-sector work environment as a viable and fulfilling career path.

This is not a fully remote opportunity, in-office hours are to be expected.
Interns are also expected to participate in both in-office work assignments as well as a member of the in-person training cohort.
Department of Human Services
DHS’ Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is seeking an Intern for its unique community-based Nursing Case Management (NCM) and Community Living Program (CLP) programs. ADSD provides a comprehensive array of services to older adults, adults with mental health needs, and those with developmental disabilities. The goal of the Nursing Case Management (NCM) and Community Living Program (CLP) is to improve and maintain the health status of adults with multiple chronic illnesses and/or disabilities so they successfully and safely age in place at home. The candidate will join a team of dedicated professionals in the Community Supports and Coordination Bureau (CSCB) and be responsible for providing support for the day-to-day operations and monitoring of the Community Living Program.
Under the direct supervision of a mentor, responsibilities include:
Reviewing and analyzing current tracking systems, compiling information and making recommendations for change or improvements, developing alternatives for consideration, and analyzing the benefits of recommendations;
Establishing/reviewing CLP policies and procedures in collaboration with the Project Officer, AAA Director, CSCB Bureau Director and Administrative Office as needed, making recommendations for changes or improvements as well as developing plans to implement changes;
Monitoring and tracking data from vendor reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual), setting up systems to track and report data, reporting monthly CLP data on ADSD monthly worksheet, and assisting in incorporating this data into NCM/CLP Performance Metrics report;
Reviewing vendor monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and summarizing/sharing trends with the Project Officer;
Observing daily operations of a work unit or department to learn how work is accomplished and may participate in the work for purposes of further developing programmatic knowledge and skills as well as rotating through multiple assignments;
Assisting with the development, implementation, and maintenance of electronic or manual record keeping systems to provide easy access for employees and customers to programmatic information which may include policies, procedures, current data, or historical information;
Using current office technology to compile and develop reports including the analysis and synthesis of moderately complex data; and
Creating public information or educational materials to disseminate program information to the public, citizens, business, interest groups and other stakeholders.

Selection Criteria
Minimum:
Recent, 2023 and/or 2024 college graduates earning either a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree* in the area of consideration prior to the start date of the internship must have:
No significant professional-level work experience (less than one year) in the internship field; and
Applicants who are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program related to the internship must not have significant professional-level work experience in the internship area and must be available to work during designated hours.
*Any time lapse between earning degrees may not include significant professional-level work experience.
Degree Requirements: Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Human Services, Public Health, or related discipline. Applications will be accepted from candidates graduating with an undergraduate degree no later than August, 2024 and from candidates currently pursuing a Master's Degree in their field as described above.
Desirable: A G.P.A. of 3.0 or above is preferred and applicants may be asked to provide certified official transcripts
Special Requirements
Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

The pay ranges listed above are effective July 1, 2024.
Work Hours: This is a full-time position (40 hrs/week) M-F between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility and telework opportunities available upon prior approval from the supervisor. This is not a fully remote opportunity.
Employees will be expected to be in the office at the discretion of the Supervisor and needs of the agency as well as to attend in-person classroom training.
