Reporting to the Head of Security at the British Art Center, the Security Officer 2 is an essential employee who enforces policies and procedures with respect to the operation, security, and safety of the Center, its possessions, and its occupants in accordance with industry standards. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: opening, securing and closing the Center; rooms or areas of special affairs according to department schedule and procedures; rotation in and out of several highly visible and interactive posts as assigned; operation and control of the Staff Entrance which includes monitoring access, deliveries of both art and supplies, issuance of visitor passes, keys and security devices, and other related administrative duties.
The officer will respond to fire alarms, determine alarm locations via fire alarm panels; operation of the Control Room including monitoring electronic security equipment (CCTV system, intrusion alarm system, access control systems and art object alarm system). In addition, this position communicates policies, information and directions to patrons in a clear and polite yet authoritative manner, reporting all violations; inspection and protection of designated areas and objects as directed by Center staff, reporting problems promptly; responding to all alarms and emergencies in accordance with the British Art Center procedures and reporting all safety/fire hazards, security problems, system/equipment malfunctions, and observed maintenance problems to supervisors, control center, campus police and alarm monitoring centers as necessary. Demonstrated ability to assess security issues and report findings to the appropriate personnel in a timely and professional manner. 1. Enforces the University’s security rules and protects the property and safety of persons on campus. Remains constantly alert for threats to persons and to the property being protected. 2. Maintains a security watch and safeguards areas by viewing and operating central security surveillance systems. Monitors CRT graphic screens to examine and respond to control alarms, and top detect and report street or property crimes. 3. Acknowledges event, enters response logs and journals into computerized system, and prepares daily and historic reports used for making management decisions regarding area security status. 4. Maintains radio and intercom communications with other Control Rooms to report suspicious activities and maintain visual surveillance of areas. 5. Cooperates with police, fire and other authorities in reporting problems affecting safety and security of persons and property, and in preparing necessary reports. 6. Searches data base access controls, status reports, site design screens, and elevator configurations to determine alarm locations, alarm status, and access eligibility. Updates and revises access codes and settings as necessary. 7. Permits authorized personnel to enter property. Determines admission and records entrance of students, faculty and staff who have forgotten their I.D. cards. Arranges for Security Attendant back up when they leave their post, and monitors time spent away from post. 8. Arranges for investigation if trouble is suspected. Will be required to fill in for Security Attendant I as staffing needs dictate. Issues and controls keys. 9. Performs additional functions incidental to security activities. Four years of related work experience in security, law enforcement, military police, or customer service, and a high-school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
