CLERK/SECRETARY I
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the site administrator, performs clerical work in a school office; assists in supervision of students as required by site administrator; performs other related tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
May include, but not limited to:
- Types letters, forms and reports, which may be of a specialized, technical nature
- Acts as receptionist in receiving parents or other visitors and provides information as directed by the site administrator
- Answers telephone
- Maintains files and records
- Performs liaison services between site and parents
- Registers students and manages cumulative record system
- Keeps such accounts as required, including attendance accounting and reporting
- Requisitions supplies
- Keeps employee time sheets as required
- Operates office machines and equipment, including computer and word processor
- May do cafeteria reports
- May assist in school opening and closing procedures
- May provide minor first aid to students
- Assists site supervisor in supervision of students, preparation of instructional materials, and evaluation of student work in non-judgmental areas
- Assists as required in scheduling conferences
- May supervise students at lunch and other times
- Performs other duties, as directed, consistent with the general areas of responsibility surrounding the job description.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Application of:
modern office procedures and office equipment, including computer and word processor, filing systems, receptionist and telephone techniques; student supervision techniques; proper spoken and written English.
Ability to:
- perform responsible clerical work with accuracy and speed
- learn specific rules, laws, and policies quickly and apply them with good judgment in a variety of procedural situations
- make arithmetical calculations quickly and accurately
- compile and maintain accurate and complete records and reports
- understand and carry out oral and written directions; meet the public tactfully and courteously
- establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults
- assist teacher in basic school subjects
- supervise students
- read printed materials
- hear and speak to conduct normal in-person and telephone conversations
- move to perform the duties described in an efficient manner
Education / Experience:
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, preferably with courses in keyboarding, computer skills, office methods and procedures.
Two years’ clerical or secretarial work or equivalent; experience with children-related work desirable.
Must meet District minimum requirements through practical and/or written examination
Salary Level: 34 - Classified Salary Schedule
Requirements / Qualifications
Short-term, grant-funded position for the 2024-2025 school year.
Provides clerical support to the Mental Health Hub at Dent Elementary.
Monday-Thursday
5 hours per day
Start and end times may vary depending on need.
