The top salary range for this position currently reaches $65,075.71. The position will receive a 4.0% salary increase in July 2025, a 3.0% salary increase in July 2026; bringing the top step salary to $69,709.16.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of specialized clerical work of above-average difficulty in connection with the preparation, review and maintenance of financial and statistical records; and performs related duties as required.
Essential Job Functions
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: review claims, vouchers, deposits, time cards, computer source documents and other records for arithmetical accuracy, legality, consistency and budget classifications; assemble, sort, tabulate, code and file financial and statistical data; make arithmetical calculations and verify totals and extensions; post, adjust and balance routine accounts; collect and account for money; act as cashier on an as-needed basis; prepare bank deposits, bank reconciliations, invoices, departmental vouchers, journal entries, Revolving and Bail account checks and other reports as needed; balance statements and resolve discrepancies; compute and audit billings; assist in the processing of accounts payable documents; collect on delinquent accounts; may initiate action or represent city in Small Claims Court; type entries, requisitions, routine letters, tabulations and other documents; operate standard office machines; input data into computer; and provide temporary and vacation relief for Accounts Payable Clerk and other similar occupational fields on an as-needed basis.
Qualification Guidelines
Education and/or Experience
Education equivalent to graduation from high school and some clerical accounting experience which includes review and maintenance of financial records and fiscal/account transactions.
Post-secondary coursework in bookkeeping, accounting or specialized clerical accounting may be substituted for experience on the basis of twenty-four (24) semester units for one (1) year.
Knowledge of
Financial record-keeping practices; modern office practices machine operation; and municipal accounting system procedure
Ability to
Maintain financial and statistical record-keeping work; understand and apply specific record-keeping procedures; detect errors in coding, arithmetic and record processing; make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

If driving a City vehicle, a valid California Driver's License is required.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This is a journey level class in clerical accounting work. Positions in this class are typically responsible for a segment of the accounting or record-keeping system. Assignments may require occasional discretion in the application of standard procedures, as well as an understanding of the record-keeping system and related transactions. This class includes positions which require skill and ability to type and/or perform data entry at an acceptable rate of speed, given the specific requirements of the position.
SELECTION PROCESS:

Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment physical and may be required to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination as part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.
