Position Summary
The GW Heart and Vascular Institute is currently recruiting a Pulmonary Hypertension Research Assistant. You will be assigned to research projects in cardiovascular imaging/CT and heart failure activities with primary functions devoted to data collection, data review and analysis, and preparation of reports.
In this position, the research assistant will be devoted to data collection and analysis of 1) new approaches to coronary artery disease CT imaging and 2) new treatment strategies and diagnostic approaches to heart failure.
The ideal candidate will have a background participating in medical research, medical databases, and, preferably, experience with cardiovascular disease studies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides daily research support for all assigned research projects and related activities.
- Develop, maintain and manage a databases.
- Data entry and maintenance of files
- Assist in developing research support procedures and policies.
- Provide a liaison with other campus-wide offices and external research collaborators as necessary to coordinate research efforts.
- Conducts computerized and on-line research as needed to support ongoing and future research projects.
- Assists in research, analysis, and writing of assigned reports to support other research staff members.
- Submission of regulatory documents such as IRB.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Post-graduate fellows, graduate students or BA/BS graduate candidates with prior training in cardiovascular medical research are preferred.
Experience
- One year of medical research experience is necessary.
- An understanding of clinical cardiovascular disease will be preferred, but not required.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel is required with this position.
- Prior experience in quantitative and qualitative research preferred but not required, including database design, maintenance, patient interaction, thematic coding of qualitative data, survey design, administration, and quantitative analysis.
- Background in statistics is also preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, walk, reach, bend, or twist for long periods of time in a clinical setting.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. as part of the role.
- Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment.
- Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.
