Under the guidance of the Designated Campus Building Official acting in the role of Authority Having Jurisdiction, reviews plans, calculations, and reports prepared by the architect and engineer of record and confirms compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and standards, on a wide variety of construction projects ranging from maintenance, repair, alterations, small additions, tenant improvements, and new construction. Provide technical advice to consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, Construction and Design project managers on the application or interpretation of codes, engineering and planning problems arising in the preliminary design of buildings and other structures. Reviews and evaluates proposals for alternate materials, methods of construction, and/or variances to codes and standards. Conduct field inspections to ensure that the finished construction complies with approved plans. Supports Project Managers and permitting staff in processing permits in a timely manner
To maximize flexibility and ensure continuity from plan review to field inspection, the University intends that the incumbent in this position acts as back-up to Inspector, and plan reviewer and vice-versa.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $94,400 - $201,800 (Annual Rate).

Certification in a specialty skilled trade.
Advanced knowledge of California Mechanical, electrical, or plumbing codes.
Advanced Knowledge of stormwater best management practices, geotechnical engineering and earthwork, and utility infrastructure
Advanced skills in reviewing, evaluating, and advising project management on project completeness as applied to applications for progress payments submitted by contractors.
Bachelor's degree in structural, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering; architecture, or related area.
Advanced knowledge of California Building Code, ADA, Cal OSHA, and the campus, medical center, or University Construction Design Standards and UC policies.
Expert knowledge/skills in providing comprehensive plan reviews of tenant improvement, or new construction projects as well as code applications for replacement, repairs, and upgrades of facilities, with particular emphasis on area of technical expertise.
Advanced knowledge of the campus, including its infrastructure and applicable rules, regulations, policies, and practices.
Advanced verbal and interpersonal communication skills including the skill to work effectively with a variety of constituents at all organizational levels.
Advanced organizational and analytical skills, including skills in problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution.
Advanced skills in effectively meeting budget and time constraints.
Skills to use computers and other electronic media to complete project documentation of all inspections, project progress, contractor manpower and equipment accounting, and digital photography of the work in progress.
