The Credit Officer is a member of the Credit Risk Management team. The principal function of this position is to be the primary Credit Approver in an assigned region or business line for business loans that are not credit scored. This function may be further specialized between C&I lending, CRE lending, and business banking. The CO exercises this authority within approval limits as delegated by senior management. The CO supports the business strategies of the bank and assures that Mechanics Bank credit policies and procedures are applied in a consistent and uniform manner. CO further ensures that credit actions are clearly, succinctly, and accurately reflected in written form. Where higher levels of authority are required, the CO also serves as the gatekeeper for submissions up the approval chain, making the first recommendation. The CO also assists in the monitoring and risk management of the portfolio within their assigned region. As the primary point of contact for their assigned business line, the CO is a point of focus for CRM to support the broader business goals of Mechanics Bank. The CO seeks solutionsbydevelopingaworkingrelationshipwithDivisionalManagement,MarketandTeamManagers, Relationship Managers, Underwriters and Financial Analysts to provide guidance on credit structure and policyquestionsinamannerconsistentwithMechanicsBankcreditpolicies.TheCO’sguidancewillalso help mentor and train staff, and may manage staff where business needs dictate.
What you will be doing:
Review of Credit Applications: Ensures requests are underwritten soundly,inconformitywithCreditPolicyandProcedures.Risksand mitigants are clearly discussed. Policy Exceptions are described, supported, and reported. Approves requests within delegated authority. Recommends approval of credit requests exceeding authority.
Recommends declines to designated SCO. Communicates crisply andtimelytopartiesaffectedbythedecision.Recordsdecisionsin credit memos and origination platform.
Provides oversight for the assigned loan portfolio: Review monthly delinquency and portfolio management reports. Assesses the integrity and accuracy of loan risk ratings. Promptly identify declines increditqualitytobringpropercorrectiveactionandtominimizeloss potential. Provides guidance to the underwriters and relationship managersforthepurposeofmanagingtheportfolio.Reviewsresults of credit-related examinations, both internal and external, coordinates any responses to ensure completeness and timeliness.
Acts as directed to facilitate reviews and responses, and is party to discussionsinvolvingthecreditportfoliosoftheirrespectiveregions.

Works effectively and cooperatively with Relationship Managers, Underwriters, Analysts, loan compliance/review functions, various credit committees and other credit colleagues in achieving goals.
Demonstratesteamwork and facilitates communication and work flow, including creative andpragmaticsolutionstocreditchallenges.
Advises credit and loan staff on the impact of bank credit policy and portfolio trends for current relationships as well as requests pending from prospects. Answers any questions of loan documentation staff as to appropriate documentation, covenants, etc. for approved requests.
Who you are:
Bachelor's degree highly preferred, but additional experience in lieu of education will be considered.
7 Years of technical experience in credit are required.
3 years of leadership experience are required.
Proficient with MS Office Suite.
Possess excellent human relations, communications and business writing skills.
Possess effective time management and organizational skills.
Able to cope with pressure resulting from meeting required deadlines and reporting requirements.
Demonstrate teamwork in facilitating workflow. High level of cooperation with others and responsive to the Bank’s needs.

High level of accuracy and great attention to detail.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and Credit Policy and Credit Procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Salary Range: $160,000-200,000 annually
Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
