We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, detail oriented Publishing Assistant who will support the Penguin Publishing Group’s backlist publishing team. The ideal candidate will be able to manage the day-to-day functions of the team while keeping track of numerous publishing projects. Exceptional organizational skills are a must. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with all imprints within the Penguin Publishing Group and get a bird’s-eye view of the overall publishing process. You will gain valuable experience working on backlist books which are titles that have been published for more than 1 year.
Responsibilities:

Provide administrative support, such as organizing and scheduling meetings and taking minutes

Update and manage backlist project tracking grids and programmatic publishing calendars daily

Compile project information and relevant materials that can be communicated to the sales and imprint teams on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis

Run weekly reporting using both internal systems and Power BI dashboards tailored to backlist needs in order to keep the team aware of sales spikes, inventory status, project performance, reprint delivery timing, and potential project opportunities
The idea candidate will have:

No prior publishing experience required

Desire to learn about the publishing process from start to finish

A passion for both fiction and nonfiction, and an interest in genre fiction

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and build internal relationships with various imprint departments

Exceptional attention to detail and outstanding follow-up and multitask skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with PowerBI a plus
