The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Vote Center Support to assist in the upcoming November 2024 General Election. The Elections Division is a fast-paced environment; this is an excellent opportunity to work with a group of dynamic, well-organized, and highly efficient individuals committed to the democratic process.
We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for temporary, full-time positions:
Vote Center Specialist
Assist with front desk duties by:
Answering phones.
Greeting members of the public.
Aiding voters.
Update and maintain documentation related to personnel recruitment, training, scheduling and Vote Center locations. Schedule and prepare for unit activities including:
Representative interviews.
Representative onboarding and training sessions.
Site visits.
Assist in coordinating training schedules.
Support Vote Center operations through:
Receiving time sheets.
Monitoring computer systems.
Organizing post-election feedback and statistic collection.
May assist with other unit activities as time permits.
The Vote Center Support is classified as an Office Specialist.The hourly wage for this position starts at: $28.67.
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.
Qualifications
Vote Center Support candidates will have strong organizational abilities, computer proficiency, attention to detail, and previous knowledge of vote center procedures and the live vote center application. Good candidates will also prioritize work, learn new jobs tasks quickly, and understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Typical office hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However, these positions may require working overtime, including long hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Any authorized time worked more than 40 hours in the workweek shall be considered overtime and shall be compensable at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times the overtime worked.
Generally, extra-help employees who work on a holiday shall be compensated for such time worked at the rate of one and one-half (1 1/2) times the straight-time rate as provided in the Overtime Section of this MOU for their work group).
The selected individuals must be available for the entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.
