POSITION OVERVIEW
The Associate / Staff Accountant, Commodity Accounting is responsible for ensuring LNG transactions (purchases, sales, storage and inventory,) are recorded in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). Responsibilities include preparation and timely payment of invoices, investigation and resolution of counterparty volume and price discrepancies, preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, building tools to support shorter close cycles, creation of adequate audit support, researching accounting treatment for specific commodity-based transactions, reconciling ENDUR energy trading and risk management system (ETRM) to third party statements and Oracle, supporting internal compliance requirements including SOX, internal and external audit requests. Other tasks as assigned including the assistance in preparation of budget and forecasts. This candidate will embrace opportunities to streamline current processes in an effort to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of current process.
The Commodity Accounting team sits on the Trade Floor in order to facilitate real-time face-to-face communication with Front- and Mid-Office employees and candidate will be expected to adapt to the dynamic environment of a Trade Floor.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- A Ensure successful interface between ENDUR ETRM and the Oracle G/L for monthly entries
- Communicate effectively with key stakeholders to resolve volumetric and/or pricing differences.
- Prepare LNG and related invoices ensuring that details are consistently reconciled between ENDUR and Oracle and to third-party support. Ensure successful interface between ENDUR ETRM and the Oracle G/L for invoicing and cash application.
- Prepare journal entries and reviews accounting classifications in accordance with US GAAP
- Reconcile, analyze, and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close to ensure accuracy and validity of accounting transactions and company books and records
- Contribute to the quarter end close financial reporting related to commodity accounting transactions, including pipeline and storage commitments.
- Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits.
- Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and interpretation.
- Serve as a financial reporting resource to others.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge:
- Proficient in accounting principles and standards; and
- Familiarity with the Hyperion Financial Close (smart view) application a plus.
- Knowledge of the energy industry, in particular shipping and inventory accounting.
- Familiarity with the ENDUR-OpenLink ETRM platform a plus.
- Oracle general ledger accounting knowledge and skillset a plus.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to work with all levels of management and employees
- Proficient in Microsoft office products including Excel
- Effective time management skills with a focus on process improvement
- Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy
- Must be able to work under deadline pressure, and must be willing to work outside of normal office hours
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education, Training and Certifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required. CPA or CPA in progress is preferred.
Experience:
- Associate: 0-2 years of applicable experience is required; preferably within the energy commodities industry. Public accounting experience working with clients in the energy commodity industry is a plus. Experience with ENDUR-Openlink is a plus.
- Staff: 2+ years’ of applicable experience is required; preferably within the energy commodities industry. Public accounting experience working with clients in the energy commodity industry is a plus. Experience with ENDUR-Openlink is a plus.
