Position Summary:
Instructs group classes, provides excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness, engagement and healthy living in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Leads group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
- Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes.
- Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
- Keeps accurate class attendance records.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
- Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
- Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.

Qualifications:
- Required certifications: CPR, First Aid,, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
- Certification in areas of expertise.
- YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.
- At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
- Must hold current YMCA Water Fitness or any of the following nationally recognized Water Fitness Certification
- AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association) Water Fitness or Aqua Arthritis
- USWFA (United States Water Fitness Association)
- All water fitness instructors must attend a minimum of 2 hours of in-service training with the aquatics department per year.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to fitness.
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
