As a Level III Regional Referral Center, Woman’s is part of a select group of hospitals in the nation who can provide quality care for the smallest and sickest babies. Our unit is designed to focus on intensive care, while encouraging family bonding. Our designation as a Level III Regional Referral Center means we have a neonatologist and anesthesiologist available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our caring team of neonatologists and specially trained nurses monitor the baby’s condition at all times by direct observation, and by using the latest specialized equipment and technology available. We also participate in the Vermont Oxford Quality Improvement Collaborative with 500 other NICUs across the country to keep abreast of the latest research and emerging practices that offer the best care for premature and critically ill babies.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree or higher in Nutrition
- Previous work experience with breast milk and/or formula preferred
Responsibilities of the Dietetic Tech position include, but are not limited to:
- Obtain list of breast milk patients from RN’s.
- Check for feeding orders and processes orders performing precise calculations and mixing accordingly
- Prepare work areas and safely and effectively operates equipment.
- Begin milk preparation for a 24-hour supply for each individual patient one by one.
- Defrost milk, add additives if ordered and draw up a syringe or make bottles for each patient.
- Check bottle/syringe labels with the mother’s label at the infant’s bedside by scanning prior to preparing expressed breast milk.
- Ensure accuracy of labeling bottles and syringe.
- Check labels on bottles and syringes in the milk preparation room and before placing them in into correctly labeled patient bins to ensure proper storage.
- Clean work surfaces and equipment prior to milk preparation, and in between each individual patient milk preparation.
- Restock used supplies.
- Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures and maintain the cleanliness on a daily/or as needed basis.
- Use correct techniques to measures liquids and solids.
- Inform the RN that their patient’s milk is prepared and labeled.
- Perform other duties assigned by Department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.
Hours
Three 12 hours shifts per week (6:30 am to 7 pm); Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Pay
$13.19 - $18.63 plus shift differentials based on experience
