Four (4) years of experience in a Bursar’s/Student Accounts, Financial Aid, or other student administrative service department at a college or university with specific knowledge related to campus loan programs
Experience using a data enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, such as Colleague, to compile and analyze data and prepare reports
Ability to exercise sound judgment and sensitivity in interacting with students, parents, faculty, staff, and other internal and external stakeholders

Manage the activities of one direct report, Bursar Coordinator.
Serve as a resource to staff on system or student account issues; ensure that students, parents, and others coming to the department are assisted in a professional, service oriented manner.
Review and discuss student accounts by applying Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations. Meet with parents and students in person, telephone and/or email, to discuss all aspects of the account, including specific charges, financial aid, credits adjustments, calculations of amount due and advising of payment options. Advise of and enforce University policies.
Provide assistance and guidance to all Bursar staff to alleviate elevated situations while still providing excellent service and enforcing University policy.

Monitor and manage all processing, outreach, technology, and communications for billing and collections. Lead student facing communications inclusive of direct texting and call campaigns.
Perform regular AR analyses and ad-hoc reports to make data driven recommendations to the Bursar.
Ensure compliance with all Federal loan program regulations, including processing and maintaining accurate forms and documents.
Prepare monthly cash analysis for loan payments and accounting entries for all student loan programs based on activity from outside third party loan servicer/billing acency.
Assessment of the Perkins Loan portfolio for accounts that have exceeded 2 years in default status. Execute regular assignment of defaulted loans to the Deprtment of Education.
Manage the accounts receivable and collection process for all University loan programs (Federal and institutional) and student accounts receivable including developing and overseeing due diligence processes, overseeing collection, liasing with loan service provider, resolving disputes, requesting credit checks and skip tracing using appropriate available resources, reviewing and approving placements with external recovery or collection agencies.

Conduct debt management strategies designed to keep the University’s default rate at a minimum.
Oversee coordination with the Financial Aid Office and posting of Outside scholarship, alternative and NJ Class loan funds to student accounts, and reconciliation of student account cash receipt records with Financial Aid.
Supervise collection of tuition and fee payments. Ensures all cash controls are followed by Bursar employees.
Prepare reconciliations and reports of the Bursar/Cashier’s Office records to ensure complete and accurate accounting records of billings, receipts, and outstanding receivables.
Attend trainings, seminars, conferences and other meetings to remain knowledegeable of legislation/regulations affecting the collection of accounts receivables and privacy in higher education.
Assist in the documentation of policy and procedures for the department.
Manage inquiries that come into the MULoans email box.
