Background: Must be able to prove eligibility to work in the United States, pass a background investigation, DMV check, live scan fingerprinting for the disclosure of any criminal record, and a physical examination including a drug-screening test.
Basic Knowledge of: Customer service techniques and principles; applicable laws, municipal codes and development standards related to zoning, building and safety, parking, and public nuisances; methods to gain legal compliance from property owners; methods and techniques of field inspections and investigations of land uses and structures; operations, services and activities of an effective code enforcement program, and principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting.
Ability to: Provide excellent customer service, treat the public diplomatically and with respect, and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the course of work; be solution-oriented, persuasive and assertive, without being confrontational, in pursuit of municipal code compliance; deal constructively with conflict and develop effective resolutions; learn and correctly interpret and apply laws, municipal codes, policies, and procedures; conduct investigations into code violations; effectively develop alternative options for solving non-routine issues that may arise; read and interpret maps, plans, and legal descriptions; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing to explain and interpret municipal codes; present a clean, neat appearance appropriate to successful public contact; and maintain a valid California Driver’s License as a condition of employment.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND EDUCATION:
A Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public or Business Administration or a related field and a minimum of three years of code enforcement experience related to zoning, housing, property maintenance, health and safety codes, ordinances, regulations and policies is required.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License without suspensions prior to and throughout employment is required.
