** July 2024 - 2.98% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + 0.23% Market Increase)
THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $94,640.00 ANNUALLY. COUNTY EMPLOYEES ARE SUBJECT TO THE COUNTY PROMOTIONAL RULE FOR STEP PLACEMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH COMP ORD 1.3.5.
The Position
Supervising Vector Ecologists are assigned to the Department of Environmental Health and Quality and supervise the work of professional, technical and support personnel, and are responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating multiple program areas throughout the county involved in vector-borne disease and vector nuisance abatement through surveillance, identification, analysis, prevention, and control of vertebrate and invertebrate vectors, their hosts, and sources. This position oversees compilation, preparation, analysis, and presentation of reports, records, documents, and other information pertaining to vector biology, vector-borne disease surveillance, and vector prevention efforts.
Hiring Timeline & Dates
- Job Offer and Background Process will begin in August 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in a biological science such as medical entomology, parasitology, biology, zoology, or closely related field, AND, four (4) years of progressively responsible experience as a Vector Ecologist or comparable professional level position, which included responsibility for coordinating vector ecology, surveillance and control programs, and land-use and source management related to vector biology and control. This experience must have included two (2) years of experience supervising or leading staff and activities in these program areas; OR
- A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in a biological science such as medical entomology, parasitology, biology, zoology, or closely related field, AND, three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a Vector Ecologist or comparable professional level position, which included responsibility for coordinating vector ecology, surveillance and control programs, and land-use and source management related to vector biology and control. This experience must have included two (2) years of experience supervising or leading staff and activities in these program areas.
Note: Additional years of experience as described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Condition of Employment

Evaluation Process
