Under the direction of the required provisions of the Virginia Department of Health-Tabacco Control Office (VDH-TCO) and Health Human Services Office of Minority Health Grant (HHS-OMH) and reporting to the FCHD Community Health Division Director, the Public Health Youth Ambassador Program (PHYAP) MAIII Program Manager (S-27) will serve to expand capacity to implement the Public Health Youth Ambassador Program. The program trains high school students from underserved communities as Community Health Workers (CHWs). The program seeks to increase diversity among health professionals, change the participant’s career trajectory and give them tools to build generational health. The PHYA program helps students from underserved communities gain the essential knowledge, experience and skills that can lead to a successful public health career where they will help define future culturally relevant solutions and transform policy and practice.
As part of normal project operations, the program manager position works with fellow staff members to ensure adherence to the project plan, priorities and activities that are based on the education and program implementation model. This position helps to establish and cultivate strategic relationships to further inform and support the implementation of the PHYAP program throughout the county. Assists in coordination where countywide stakeholders are involved. Develops collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and fosters community input to ensure that the program implementation objectives are met.
Note: This position requires a shift work schedule that includes evenings, weekends and holidays. The successful candidate will be comfortable working evenings and weekends on a regular basis. This position is not eligible for telework.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in field related to the assigned functional area; plus four years of professional work experience within the functional area.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
AED certification required within 60 days
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within 60 days
Valid motor vehicle driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.
This position is considered essential personnel and will be required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency situation (i.e., weather, transportation, other disaster).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in education, public health or related field of study;
Should have extensive experience designing, implementing and contributing to community-based health related programs in culturally and age-diverse populations;
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals, such as community members and building partnerships with school systems, businesses, nonprofits and faith-based groups;
Experience with managing, implementing, and developing comprehensive programs for the public, preferably in health related education;
Experience implementing online health related curriculums;
Experience working independently;
Must communicate effectively through the use of verbal, written and electronic means;
Advanced knowledge of basic Microsoft Office Suite applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); and
Bilingual language skills a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job is generally sedentary in nature, and requires walking, standing, sitting (for long periods of time), and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; may be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer and use of touchscreen. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Generally, works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. Ability to drive a motor vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
