The Trauma Registrar is responsible to review, interpret and analyze the Trauma patient’s medical record for abstraction into the state required Trauma Registry of patients. The Trauma Registrar does this while meeting inclusion criteria defined by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation’s (PTSF) Trauma Registry and POPIMS data dictionaries and Grand View Health criteria. The Trauma registrar maintains and protects the integrity of the Trauma Registry database, data management, data analysis, report writing, as well as statistical and graphic output of trauma data.
Essential Functions:
Performs concurrent trauma record abstraction and interprets the clinical data in the record for accurate entry into the trauma database in a timely manner. Generates and analyzes concurrent data reports in response to Trauma Service requests. Maintains confidentiality and security of all patient data in the Trauma Registry.
Ensures data entry is accurate, complete and conforms to PTSF trauma registry and POPIMS data dictionary definitions. Accurately utilizes Tricode software in the PTSF Trauma Registry ensuring accurate injury coding of AIS, TRISS and ICD-10 codes. Effective utilization of the ICD-10-CM Diagnosis and procedure coding books, Abbreviated Injury _ Scale scoring book by the Association for the
Advancement of Automotive Medicine. Submission of PTOS patient data via the PA Trauma Systems Foundation Portal within 42 days of discharge.
Actively participates as a vital team member in concurrent and retrospective Trauma Service performance improvement initiatives by providing expertise with data retrieval and data manipulation from the trauma registry system. Analyzes data and provides information ensuring that customer requirements are met by utilizing reports and graphics.
In collaboration with Trauma Program Manager ensures the integrity of the system with timely updates, enhancements, and system back-up. Is able to independently troubleshoot hardware and software system problems as they arise.
Analyzes patient medical records according to established PTSF and GVH criteria for inclusion in the Trauma Registry database. In collaboration with the PIPS RN accurately and efficiently identifies PTSF qualifiers and audit filters.
Functions as an important resource to plan, identify, trend, analyze, and integrate new data collection elements for use in trauma patient care management, performance improvement, statistical and research purposes. Proficient in report writing skills while utilizing trauma registry data.
Completes 8 hours of trauma related education annually (calendar year) as defined by the PTSF.
Attends Trauma Program meetings as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GED And 2 years experience as an Allied Health professional, required Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Registered Nurse (RN) or completion of certificate/degree in Allied Health profession, preferred
Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and personal computer and typing skills and statistical abilities are required. Knowledge of quality care audit procedures is preferred.
