The Opportunity
This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
Our business mission is to pioneer life-changing technology that continuously improves the diagnosis, treatment, and management of heart failure to reduce the global burden of the disease. Relentlessly innovate to build smaller and smarter, connected therapies for patients and their doctors to improve access and empower people living with heart failure to enjoy their life with improved freedom from their disease.
Our location in Pleasanton, CA has around 500 employees and serves as the division’s headquarters for Heart Failure in the areas of development, quality and production of the CentriMag system and the HeartMate 3. Currently, we are expanding our innovative team in Pleasanton, CA and an exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and talented EHS professional. This position will support West Coast sites of Heart Failure with cross-divisional collaboration.
We are looking for an EHS professional who applies established EHS principles, practices, regulations and internal standards, interacts with customers and is solutions-minded in completing EHS assignments.
What You’ll Work On
Project Management:
- Plans and conducts assigned projects.
- Coordinates and monitors activities/projects.
- Assists planning and monitoring status of implementation for those assigned to project.
- Makes judgments regarding quality of implementation.
- Facilitates the definition of a project scope with stakeholders. Estimates and coordinates resources needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks.
- Jointly responsible for achieving the project’s EHS targets in support of business objectives.
Technical:
- Applies technical knowledge/skills to EHS programs and systems. Knowledge of local and federal EHS regulations and standards.
- Benchmarks internally across the organization.
- Investigates and performs analysis. Reports findings. Prepares and communicates recommendations and action plans.
- Participates and/or assists other professionals and management in the application of standard EHS theories, concepts, and techniques.
Problem Solving/Innovation:
- Interprets problems/recommends solutions.
- Identifies, analyzes, and resolves existing/new EHS challenges.
- Analyzes patterns/trends, interprets data and makes recommendations.
- Make suggestions to improve methods/designs/processes.
- Recognizes and implements good ideas/innovations. Consistently generates/adopts original solutions to problems and reduces them to practices.
- Conduct incident and accident investigations, identify root causes, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
Organizational Interface:
- Establishes contacts with immediate supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals.
- Prepares written communication. Conveys information effectively and in a timely manner through formal and informal documents and meetings with team members, both internal and external to Abbott, using appropriate communication protocols, e.g. develops proposals, conducts reviews, provides audience targeted content, prepares project summaries.
- Contributes willingly and incorporates the ideas of others, shares resources, knowledge, and accountability to benefit the objectives of the business, understands own limitations.
- Establish and build relationships, good communication and ensure stakeholder satisfaction. Initiates and cultivates open, professional relationships with stakeholders by establishing rapport, developing an understanding of others’ needs, promoting common goals, and following through on commitments.
- Participate in Abbott’s regional, global and divisional EHS meetings. Benchmarks across the organization.
- Obtains approval to proceed with proposed action plans.
- Is a good listener and open to suggestions; shares resources, knowledge and serves as an EHS expert in cross-functional projects.
- Conducts training. Prepares and delivers presentations intended to motivate or persuade others to adopt a specific recommendation or course of action.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain a safe work environment, fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization and to drive continuous improvement initiatives related to EHS performance.
Compliance:
- Supports compliance with all applicable regulations and internal standards.
- Stays current on changing technical requirements, regulations and internal/external standards.
- Assists in the identification of potential EHS risks and consequences of new and modified processes/systems/regulations and takes appropriate action.
- Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, identify potential EHS risks and consequences of new and modified processes/systems/regulations and defines and implement recommendations for mitigation measures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to EHS activities, including incident reports, training records, and permits.
- Responsible for achieving or contributing towards EHS targets.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains procedures and standards.
- Coordinates with technical support personnel to conduct EHS assessments.
- Directs the efforts of others such as technicians and outside resources.
- Supports various Heart Failure sites on environmental matters, including waste management and .
- Supports environmental sustainability projects in support of Abbott’s 2030 environmental sustainability targets and initiatives.
- Implement the emergency response plans and conduct drills to evaluate their effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health Safety, Engineering, Science, or closely related or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competencies.
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience.
- Demonstrate competencies within the following: Set Vision & Strategy, Anticipate, Innovate, Build and Deliver Results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical experience plus demonstrated competence.
- Proficient in using MS Office and systems for data management and reporting.
- Professional certification(s) desirable. ASP, CSP, CHMM
