John Carroll’s Department of Education has been preparing educators to serve Northeast Ohio Schools for over 90 years. Our undergraduate 4-year teacher licensure program builds on the JCU identity as a Jesuit liberal arts university. Students take a rigorous set of Core classes across disciplines, develop their identities as teachers in Education coursework and field experiences across all four years, and culminate in their professional year, with a dedicated field placement for pre-student teaching (fall) and student teaching (spring). University supervisors coordinate with their assigned students and respective cooperating teachers at their placement sites to arrange visits (three in the fall, four in the spring) to observe student-led lessons. University supervisors encourage their students to reflect on the planning/execution of their lessons to identify areas of success and those of potential improvement. Formal evaluative feedback is logged by university supervisors into an online platform for documentation/sharing.
Full consideration will be given to applications that are complete by May 11, although applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Supervision will begin at the start of the fall semester.

Duties and Responsibilities
Establish rapport with assigned students and their cooperating teachers in the field.
Plan with students and cooperating teachers to schedule observation visits in adherence with the department’s calendar/deadlines.
Host triadic conferences with each student and their cooperating teacher twice during the student teaching (spring) semester.
Assist students in setting goals for themselves that accurately reflect their needs, as well as monitoring their achievement of them.
Provide timely, detailed, specific, and actionable feedback based on observations, personal experience, educational research/theory, and best practices.
Provide appropriate support to students in the construction of their edTPA portfolio.
Attend university supervisor meetings on campus or remotely (if available) two times per semester.
Utilize evaluation tools selected by the department – the Observation Feedback Form (OFF) and Candidate Preservice Assessment of Student Teaching (CPAST).
Required Qualifications
Achieved initial licensure in teaching (current licensure is preferred but not required).
Master’s degree in education (any kind), educational psychology, or related field.
Experience as a K-12 teacher.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a teacher mentor, instructional coach, principal, supervisor, or teacher educator overseeing the induction and development of early career teachers.
Flexibility to travel within a 20- to 30-minute radius; though, students are rarely placed further than 20 minutes from campus.
Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions
University supervisors are compensated based on a predetermined fee schedule tied to the number of students they supervise; therefore, hourly work is not monitored. Most work will take place during traditional K-12 school hours, however, follow-up support and communication may take place at other times as necessary. Work will take place at the schools in which students are placed, as well as remotely for the more administrative aspects of the role.
