Perform specialized health care procedures in accordance with established standards of practice, including, but not limited to, catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, ostomy care, tracheostomy care, suctioning, ventilator, respiratory inhaler, nebulizer treatments, monitors insulin dosages and blood sugar levels; administers chest percussion, oxygen administration, vital sign monitoring etc. This may include administering prescribed rectal Diastat.
Provides a variety of minor health care procedures and personal hygiene services such as bandaging, taking temperatures, blood pressure readings, cleaning catheters, changing ostomy/colostomy bags, toileting, diapering, changing soiled clothing, cleaning and grooming; assists students in walking; and assists students with feeding activities.
Assists in physically positioning, transferring, and/or lifting students as required; lifts, turns, and moves students from place to place.
Support certificated staff by assisting students with physical therapy, developing motor skills, positioning and related exercises, utilizing adaptive equipment, and developing independent walking and mobility skills; assist and interact with students during physical education activities.
Assists assigned students with medications and treatments according to physician orders, Individual Specialized Health Plan (IHSP) and under the direction of the credentialed school nurse.
Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments such as outdoor activities, recess, eating, field trips, job site visits and various other activities for the purpose of evaluating students' health condition and/or assisting with immediate medical needs.
Document procedures, medications, changes regarding student’s condition, student progress, ISHP, IEP goals and responses to procedures on required logs for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g., student health information, student care plans, medication logs and information, emergency cards, emergency health care plans, informational pamphlets, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
Administers first aid and CPR according to established procedures, initiates emergency procedures related to seizure disorders and allergic reactions as needed.
Assist with the implementation of student health care procedures and protocol, as assessment of classroom environments for safety and hygiene.
Communicates regularly with the district nurse, health technician, teacher, and site administrator on medical conditions of assigned students, reporting any student health concerns to supervising school nurse.
Assist certificated staff in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and related goals and objectives, providing support to students with meeting IEP goals and objectives, monitoring student progress, and adapting, accommodating, and modifying classroom and homework assignments to meet individual student needs and reinforce learning activities.
OTHER DUTIES:
May assist in providing mandated student screenings.
Serve as backup in the Health Office as needed.
Perform related duties as assigned.
