Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Intake & Case Investigation Manager, the Intake Coordinator position is responsible for the receipt, assessment, verification, data entry of all incoming disease reports, including all required reportable diseases and other disease reports, into electronic medical records and databases. This position is highly detailed oriented. Intake Technician will also determine jurisdiction of cases and refer according to out of jurisdiction (OOJ) transfer protocol.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinate receipt, assessment, and distribution of cases reported by mail, fax, efax, telephone, and electronic lab results (ELRs) from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Infectious Disease Control Unit (IDCU). Will review disease reports for appropriate processing and data entry into various surveillance systems and electronic medical records databases. Responsible for the scanning and recording of all incoming medical records and laboratory reports relevant to investigations, including but not limited to laboratory reports and medical records.
Determine jurisdiction of cases. Work with local and out-of-state health departments on referring non-Harris County jurisdiction reports, including International jurisdictional (IJN), to other public health jurisdictions using the surveillance priority transfer protocol. Extract newly arrived immigrants from CDC Electronic Disease Notification (EDN) and process patients for services.
Track and update Excel spreadsheets daily and provide weekly status reports. Perform quality assurance for data entry to electronic medical records. Keeping up-to-date, accurate case registry information.
Assist Epidemiology/Public Health Preparedness on special projects, attend training, and educational meetings.

Requirements
Education:
High School Diploma/GED Required
Experience:
At least two (2) years of experience performing clerical office duties in a health care setting (hospital, physician or dental office, WIC clinic), documentation in and maintenance of confidential records, utilization of medical and disease terminology, frequent multi-tasking activities.
Experience working with electronic medical record software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
This is a Full-Time | Grant-funded position.
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm.
Other days and hours as necessary.
Work Environment:
This position operates in both clinical and standard office environment settings with standard equipment such as computers, fax machines, scanners, phones,and photocopiers.
Physical Demands:
This position frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
