POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will manage the execution of in vivo rodent research within the Malaria Insectary Facility to further vaccine research.
TASKS. The contractor shall:

Manage the execution of in vivo rodent research within the Malaria Insectary Facility.

Perform various procedures and techniques including Plasmodium sporozoite dissection, in vitro functional assays, molecular cloning, PCR, cell culture, and more.
-
Expand and maintain mosquito cultures according to protocols.
-
Monitor the infection status of mosquitoes including blood feeding, natural transmission, and parasite isolations.
-
Maintain malaria infected mosquito colonies and conduct in vivo malaria challenge experiments in rodents.
-
Conduct pre-clinical evaluations for malaria vaccines and monoclonal antibodies in animal models.
-
Develop methods to evaluate the protective effect of vaccines and mAbs in malaria in vivo models.
-
Design rodent malaria layouts/challenges to provide data sets supporting safe human testing.

Perform common and specialized in vivo technical procedures for malaria experiments.
-
Plan and execute relevant experiments, techniques, and procedures within quality standards and timelines.
-
Participate in meetings discussing vaccine development, antibodies, and manuscript publications on malaria.
-
Collect, analyze, interpret, and report data from diverse malaria experiments.
-
Record all research data, analyses, and conclusions in government-authorized systems in accordance with regulations.

Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, prepare purchase requests as needed.

Perform routine maintenance of the lab work area and specialized instruments and equipment.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
-
Minimum of four (4) years of related work experience.
-
Extensive experience with relevant laboratory practices.
-
Hands-on proficiency with common in vivo technical procedures in mice.
-
Preferred experience in specified techniques: malaria mouse challenge models, mosquito dissection, IVIS imaging, flow cytometry, and more.
-
Adherence to safety standards, lab policies, and compliance with necessary training.
-
Strong oral and written communication skills.
-
Basic skills in applicable computer programs.
-
Ability to work both independently and in a team.
-
Maintain high level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
-
Ability to make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results independently.
-
Creative problem-solving skills and sound judgment for decision making.

Flexibility to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
