Reporting ot the School of Nursing’s Grants Manager, the Research Finance Analyst is a member of a team of research analysts supporting the research portfolio of the School of Nursing faculty in four academic departments and an Organized Research Unit (ORU). Collectively, the team manages a portfolio of 170+ awards totalling approximately $22M of sponsored and intramural awards for approximately 80 PI’s/faculty. The Research Finance Analyst is expected to manage a portfolio of about 25 grants for 10 to 15 PI’s.
The Research Finance Analyst provides analytical and financial support in contract and grants administration including post-award fund management, financial reporting to agencies, and closeout activities for federal, state, local, and private sponsors.
The position involves activities associated with forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing the following:
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research administrator to independently manage awards in compliance with University and institutional research sponsor policies, regulations, terms and conditions. Forecasts and plans financial activity for awards; performs financial transactions, and maintains contract and grant records.
Works on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. Works on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and / or multiple sub awards. Typically works on complex proposals such as grants / contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators and multiple sub awards.
Collects and reports financial and key project personnel data required by NIH agencies.
Administers subcontracts and coordinates with collaborating institutions and their project investigators’ team.
Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official.
Support faculty through proposal initiatives that are not under the purview of the campus Research Management Services (RMS) unit.
The Research Financial Analyst will serve as the faculty’s single point of contact for research financial issues and ensures that faculty are provided with high quality, efficient, responsive, and responsible post-award research administration services.

Working knowledge of UCSF research administration, including systems and tools and processes. (MyReports, UCPath, UPlan, RAS, CACTAS, eProposal, PeopleSoft Financials, Award Verification, GL Verification)
Knowledge of UCSF HR administration guidelines and process for Academic and staff positions, including payroll and one-time compensation.
Bachelor's degree in related area and 3+ years of related experience / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsorÆs guidelines.
Strong organization and communication skills.
Working knowledge of NIH requirements, forms, reports, and processes.
