The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) will utilize specialized knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive care to General OBGYN patients in an academic medical center. The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods in collaboration with a physician. The APN provides primary health care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients. Participates in a collegial relationship with the physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: - The focus of the APN is to provide care that promotes health and well-being, prevents manages disease, and promotes rehabilitation. The APN provides and coordinates care for patients and their families throughout the care continuum, facilitating the admission/discharge process and providing continuity of care through daily clinical rounds. The APN provides educational opportunities for associates, influences change and advancement in clinical practice.
- Maintains independent clinic sessions for new, established, follow-up, and urgent visits for patients in the division of Complex Family planning. Patient history, physical exam, and decision-making must be documented and billed for in accordance with established guidelines for all patient encounters. Physician collaboration will be available.
- Orders and reviews diagnostic test results (e.g., mammograms, imaging studies, and laboratory tests), including assistance with prior authorization of certain tests, and collaborates with physicians on test results that deviate from the norm.
- Answers patient phone calls daily and calls patients back to affect treatment plans.
- Triage select patient calls for urgent clinic visits or ER evaluation.
- Completes patient-related forms (including disability and driving forms) and drafts letters of medical necessity.
