Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, an independent Catholic girls’ high school in Pasadena, California, seeks a part-time science teacher for the 2024-25 school year.

Candidates must have experience teaching the following courses Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Medicine, Forensics and Honors Chemistry as the position will be a combination of these courses. He or she should be passionate about teaching science and be able to artfully relate scientific concepts and principles to students’ everyday lives. He or she must be a team player with initiative, judgment, and problem-solving skills. Personal characteristics necessary for the position include positivity and enthusiasm for all aspects of school life including working with young women; warmth and a good sense of humor; patience and persistence; and excellent communication skills.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Head of School for Academics, the teacher will:
- Reflect the school’s mission and core values as a Holy Child school.
- Create and deliver engaging science curricula in a secondary school context.
- Establish a culture of positive communication with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Commit to value diversity and inclusive educational practices.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom and laboratory by modeling expected behavior and standards.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and resources, that reflect multiple
- perspectives and encourage collaborative work in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to further develop inclusive teaching and leadership practices and a commitment to remaining current in educational research and pedagogy.
- Possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.
- Collaborate well with colleagues on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies.
- Invest in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, department, grade-level, and faculty meetings, and all aspects that support the student experience.
- Participate actively in the school’s professional learning community, as appropriate, to deepen the understanding of curriculum, content, and competencies.
Salary
The annual salary range for this position is $39,000 to $49,200 based on 24 hours per week.

Requirements
Qualifications include:
- A bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related subject, master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of teaching.
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching.
- Skilled in the use of integrating technology to enhance learning.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
- Independent school/girls’ school experience preferred.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
