Job Summary
The Complex Systems Modeling Group (COSYMO) at Caltech's Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering is seeking two interns to assist in the development of computational and physical models for studying autonomous construction. Of particular interest are innovative modular frameworks for construction in remote locations, addressing pressing engineering challenges.
Interns will actively contribute to developing and accessing computational numerical models for these systems. This role offers first-hand experience in the computational analysis of engineering structures, providing valuable exposure to the practical application of mechanics principles in engineering research and design. Additionally, interns will engage in the hands-on construction of physical scale models for experimental analysis in a laboratory setting.
Interns will have the flexibility to choose tasks based on their particular interests, allowing them to tailor their experience within the project.
Essential Job Duties
Assembling, testing, and documenting the performance of models under various condition.
Autonomous construction. Of particular interest are innovative modular frameworks for construction in remote locations, addressing pressing engineering challenges.
The intern will work with senior staff to provide technical support for engineering and science projects as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
High school students interested in pursuing a degree in one of the following fields of study: engineering, computer science, or physics.
