This is an hourly, non-benefited, temporary position allowed to work up to a maximum of 1000 hours in a fiscal year with an average schedule of 20 - 25 hours per week. Fiscal year is from July 1st through June 30th. Remote work is not an option, all work will be completed in-person during regular business hours.

Distinguishing Characteristics: This an entry level job in the GIS series. Incumbent will perform routine computer mapping, data entry, and map production that follows set procedures and standards. Work is performed under general supervision and close evaluation.
Essential Job Functions
Develops, drafts, and organizes spatial data, spatial data analysis tasks, and various mapping requests; creates, designs, and curates a large amount of spatial data and disbursing it in a clear, understandable, and functional way; creates maps according to specifications on a project by project basis.
Builds, creates, develops, and presents maps and other geographic information on paper or computer, via PDF, or on the web; ensures clarity, accuracy, and attention to detail; maintains computerizes map coverages using aerial photography, subdivision maps, assessor parcel maps, field surveys, and boundary descriptions.
Performs geospatial and imagery analysis; processes drone data and disseminates appropriate information in functional and technical forms; provides feedback and recommendations based on footage recovered and images taken.
Gathers, complies, and represents data from tables, internal sources including databases and servers, and external sources including internet, Google earth, and others; provides GIS map creation based on data and performs maintenance and management work on geospatial data.
Attends and participates in various meetings; maintains and engages with a wide range of individuals from other departments and City offices; provides expertise, knowledge, and clarity for mapping, and geographic systems concerns or needs.
Maintains GIS and other systems with correct data and information; ensures accuracy, strong attention to detail, and consistent updating and maintenance.
Supports various City communication productions, drawing attention to the mapping specifications, questions, and needs of the City.
Performs various queries and quality assurance checks for data bases and data tables; understands and is able to use SQL effectively.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions: The incumbent will make consistent mapping, data handling, data delivery, and, GIS maintenance decisions. Decisions made will be under supervision and within set standards and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of
GIS technologies including ESRI suite, interpretation of vague requests, and new technologies.
Basic concepts, terminology, methods, principles, and practices of geographic information systems
Applicable Federal, State, and local regulations and laws; codes and ordinances.
Basic GIS procedures including digitizing, data entry, editing, and project production.
Topographic and construction surveying.
Cartography, map scale, and graphic presentation.
Professional software literacy including design software like Auto CAD
SQL query statements
Skill in:
Applying methods, techniques, and the operation of computers and printing devices.
Translating customer requests into methods and procedures.
Reading and understanding maps, geographic information, and aerial photography.
Managing multiple projects at one time.
Communicating verbally and in writing.
Operating GIS data collection computer and producing maps with information collected.
Understanding regulations, laws, ordinances, and codes
Education:High School diploma or GED
Experience: One year of experience with ArcGIS and MS office products OR GIS certificate
Licenses and Certifications: A valid State of California Driver's License.

Working environment is shared between an office and outside. Work outdoors under adverse condition in heat, wind, cold, and rain. Work in an around potential hazardous substances including pesticides, herbicides, and motor fuel. Must drive a vehicle and travel for meetings, seminars, and classes.
