Position Summary:
Incumbent will provide both oral interpretation and written translation effective in English and a secondary language. Employs the appropriate mode of interpreting (e.g., consecutive, simultaneous, or summary) to patients and their families. Serving the Limited English Proficient (LEP) patient, will understand and follow the ethical principles of confidentiality, impartiality, respect, professionalism and integrity, accuracy and completeness and cultural responsiveness.

Salary Range:
Hourly Rate Minimum $25.53 Midpoint $29.62 Maximum $33.71
Required Qualifications:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
Skill to communicate effectively with persons from various educational and socio-cultural backgrounds
Ability to provide simultaneous interpretation
Excellent grammatical, proofreading and editing skills in both English and Spanish
National certification as Medical Interpreter, or certification of completion of Medical Interpreter training course from an independent Medical Interpreter school
Minimum 4 years’ experience working as a Medical Interpreter in a healthcare setting
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Passing grade on the competency test that demonstrates ability to fluently speak, read and write in English and Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in related field or equivalent education and experience
Demonstrated ability to fluently communicate in a language other than Spanish / English (i.e., American Sign Language, Korean Language)
Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
