Possesses a degree from an accredited college or university
Possesses extensive knowledge of needs, behavior and growth patterns of children ages 10-13
Possesses a strong background in basic physical science, life science and earth science

Performance Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging and comprehensive science lessons aligned with state standards and curriculum guidelines.
Utilize various teaching methods, resources, and technologies to make science concepts accessible and interesting to students.
Develop and implement a comprehensive science curriculum that aligns with state standards and school guidelines
Provide engaging and hands-on instruction in various science disciplines, fostering a curiosity and interest in scientific concepts
Stimulates the desire for learning in each student, encouraging individuality and creativity
Expands the student’s ability to think, to find and analyze information, and to make decisions
Promotes each student’s mastery of the basic skills
Encourages development of each student’s full potential, the ability to explore knowledge, acquire skills, and express a thorough understanding of selected subjects
Offers materials that introduce students to new and emerging fields
Implements a program of study according to system-established scope and sequence guidelines
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, supportive of school policies, and appropriate to the maturity and interest of middle school students
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
Maintains professional competence through a variety of activities including inservice education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
Plan and organize science-related field trips or guest speaker presentations to enrich student learning experiences
Ensures safety protocols are followed during lab sessions
Serves on staff committees
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities of a certified professional as the principal may assign from time to time

As established by the Contract between the Weston Board of Education and the Weston Teachers Association.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Weston Plan for the improvement of instruction and evaluation of teachers and applicable State Statutes.
