Position Overview:
This position will integrate into a tight-knit team of five that equitably shares strategic, creative, and repetitive tasks alike. The team makes predictions about cyber criminal behavior and potential future activities based on what is already known about specific actors or tactics; they often get visibility at the highest levels within the company, but also inform a large audience in the broader IT department as well. They build on the team’s awareness of current cyber security trends and threats (obtained from open source intelligence feeds) that provide context to the tailored needs of Freddie Mac enterprise assets and the financial industry at large. Growing beyond these tasks, this team member sill be able to identify proactive threat hunting areas for analysis, participate in annual threat scenario exercises, maximize the use of our threat intelligence platform tool, and offer insights into how we can mature the team, its standard procedures, and how it perpetuates the intelligence collection cycle. Full team integration for this position requires a collaborative outlook and a proactive effort to initiate tasks and reach out for help when needed.
Duties include:
Reporting vulnerabilities to the appropriate internal partners
Helping monitor daily threat activity by researching indicators of compromise (IoCs) on Freddie Mac networks
Capturing analysis of IoCs in documentation
Partnering with incident response and operations center teams to support ongoing investigations
Authoring weekly and daily reports on cyber threat trends affecting the financial industry
Drafting two-page tactical, strategic, and phishing reports on an ad hoc basis.

The Cyber Threat Intelligence team’s primary responsibility is to utilize open source intelligence to identify, communicate, and mitigate threats before they can impact our network infrastructure or users.

The selected candidate will be a key member of a small team of dedicated analysts utilizing open source intelligence to protect Freddie Mac’s network.
Qualifications:
1+ years of Information Security or Cyber Security experience
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, related field or equivalent work experience
Due to the sheer amount of reporting in the position, concise word choice, grammar, and overall communication and writing skills are essential for success
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial
Critical thinking skills, knowledge of research methodologies and how to formally source materials
Having an analytical aptitude and adversarial mindset (i.e. what would an attacker do?)
Basic understanding of cloud security terms, OSI model layer technologies and attack tactics and techniques is preferred.
Packet-level analysis is likewise not required to perform the duties of this position but can inform writings on specific topics
Professional security or other technical certificates are a good way to prove familiarity with technical subject matter expertise but are not required

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $72,000 - $108,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
