Educational and Experience Requirement | System Administrator I – Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution with one year relevant experience. Experience with Apple School Manager (ASM), scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.), and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions, preferred. Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) certification is preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
System Administrator II – Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution with two years relevant experience. A currently valid Microsoft Technology Associate certificate or higher, or a Red Hat Certified System Administrator certificate or higher could be substituted for one year of experience. Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) or Apple Certified System Administrator (ACSA) certifications, desired. Experience with Apple School Manager (ASM), scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.), and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions, preferred. Experience in Windows, Red Hat Linux, and Mac Operating Systems, and in one or more endpoint and configuration management platforms, such as Red Hat Satellite, Puppet, Ansible, SCCM, or JAMF preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Primary Responsibilities | System Administrator I – Responsible for the lifecycle management of Apple Devices, including deployment, configuration, patching and troubleshooting. Documents procedures, workflows, and solutions for both internal use and to train Desktop Support on new processes. Stays up to date on the latest Apple and Jamf advancements, actively participates in relevant communities, and identifies opportunities to enhance our Apple device management strategy. Possesses a strong understanding of operating systems, primarily macOS but including Windows, and relevant applications. SHSU is primarily a Microsoft Campus, basic support for Microsoft Windows devices may be required in addition to Apple-focused responsibilities. Familiarity with technologies supporting Apple device infrastructure, such as Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions like Jamf Pro and Apple School Manager, and Apple Configurator for Manual device provisions and management, is essential. Participates in the overall Endpoint Management team efforts. Assists with user service requests and troubleshooting via the IT ticketing system. Maintains strong communication and collaboration with team members and stakeholders. Performs duties with care to prevent injury. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Automates routine tasks using Jamf scripting and workflows to streamline device management processes. Stays up to date on the latest Apple and Jamf advancements, actively participates in relevant communities, and identifies opportunities to enhance our Apple device management strategy. Possesses a strong understanding of operating systems, primarily macOS but including Windows, and relevant applications. Other Specifications | System Administrator I - Must be available for after-hours on-call support. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Strong communication skills, both orally and written. Knowledge of operating systems and applications (macOS, iOS and iPadOS). Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting. Familiar with or some experience using technologies such as Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID), enterprise-class server and direct-attached storage, as well as server virtualization. Understanding of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Domain Name System (DNS), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), and File Sharing protocols. This is a security sensitive position and requires a Department of Public Safety (DPS) fingerprint background check and will need to adhere to the Texas Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Systems Access Policy. Some travel is required.
Up to 60% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
System Administrator II – Must be available for after-hours on-call support. In-depth knowledge of operating systems and applications. In-depth knowledge of hardware and software configuration and troubleshooting. Familiar with Network Load Balancers and clustering technologies. Very familiar with or very experienced using technologies such as Redundant array of independent disks (RAID), enterprise-class server and direct-attached storage, enterprise-class storage systems such as Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS), as well as server virtualization. In-depth knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Domain Name System (DNS), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), and File Sharing protocols. In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Kerberos, Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS), and Security Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. This is a security sensitive position and requires a Department of Public Safety (DPS) fingerprint background check and will need to adhere to the Texas Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Systems Access Policy. Some travel is required.
