Harmony Hall Arts Centers is seeking a qualified, energetic, and compassionate candidate as an art teacher for our Arts Explorer summer camp 2023. Under the supervision of the Directors of Summer Programs, the Art Teacher is responsible for planning and conducting art projects that foster an environment that is fun and creative for the campers.
In addition, this role also assists other Park Camps Staff in implementing the program to provide a rich and fun experience for campers. The position requires a high aptitude to manage day-to-day interactions with children ages 7-16, a strong ability to work collaboratively with the camp teams, and a capacity to be flexible.
Examples of Important Duties
• Plan art projects for children ages 7-16 • Provide a planned and thoughtful program that will interest and excite Campers • Communicate planned activities to camp staff • Multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently • Plan and direct engaging, age appropriate activities • Serve as a positive role model and mentor • Share highlights of session with parents, camp staff, and others • Work with Director(s) to order supplies for Camp WORK SCHEDULE: • Applicant must be available to work Monday through Friday, July 10 – August 18, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Experience working with children in a school or daycare environment
Available for entire summer camp session (6 weeks: July 10-August 18, 2023)
Must enjoy playing and interacting with children
Organized, enthusiastic, and energetic
Must be a creative and innovative thinker and planner
Must take initiative, be self-directed, and capable of independently identifying and solving problems
Must have good communication skills and work well with both children and adults
Represent Harmony Hall Arts Center in a professional, caring, and thoughtful manner at all times
Pass a Maryland State background check
Supplemental Information
This position works closely with M-NCPPC supervisors to ensure a safe, secure and customer friendly environment, promoting cooperation. All summer program staff are required to attend pre-service training, Youth Camp Safety Standards training, food service training (where applicable), and obtain a CPR and First Aid certification prior to the beginning of camp. Answers all issues from parents and handles any concerns. Oversees and reviews records of attendance, completes incident or health log documentation, and documents inventory of all equipment on site. Responsibilities include the day to day supervision of program participants. Assists in the review and oversight of administrative records. Assists in planning, implementing, participating and evaluating programs and special events. Assists in training, supervising and evaluating staff and volunteers.
Enforces programs rules of Youth Camp Safety Standards. Works closely with parents and in some locations the Board of Education personnel. Ensures a safe, secure and customer friendly environment on site and on field trips. Oversees program leaders conducting daily activities and the production of the weekly calendar. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a good rapport with participants, parents and other staff. Since this is a summer only position, there is no paid vacation, holiday or sick leave. All summer program staff are required to attend pre-service training, Youth Camp Safety Standards training, and obtain a CPR and First Aid certification prior to the beginning of camp.
