The Compensation Analyst implements and supports the compensation philosophy and process for Towson University. This role conducts position reviews, analyzes/evaluates position in order to make accurate classification and salary recommendations, and serves as a resource regarding compensation guidance, policies, and procedures. Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
- Review and evaluate position descriptions, organizational charts, and other pertinent information through a variety of requests (e.g. equity study, position/classification review, recruitment) to make recommendations on the appropriate classification and compensation for positions. Ensure pay is competitive, equitable, and aligned with TU’s compensation philosophy. Develop and document procedures to streamline processes and ensure timely response to studies.
- Analyze organizational structure and employee functionality to provide recommendations and feedback on departmental reorganizations.
- Advise and lend expertise to managers and employees on how classification and compensation decisions are made, including job evaluation and policy/procedural interpretation. Work with HR Partners and managers to develop solutions within University System of Maryland (USM) and FLSA guidelines.
- Conduct routine internal audits to ensure appropriate compensation for TU employees. Proactively benchmark employees to market targets.
- Assists in the preparation of end-of-year and end-of-fiscal-year activities and reporting.
- Participate in compensation surveys and uses results to determine competitiveness of pay.
- Serve as a member of the USM Compensation/Classification Committee (CCC), and provide insight to the effectiveness of compensation philosophy, policies, and guidelines. Recommend improvements to the CCC and the Office of Human Resources. Responds to salary inquiries from CCC members.
- Stay abreast of local, regional, and national market practices to ensure competitiveness. Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree and three years of related experience.
- Demonstrated skill in analyzing job descriptions; history of developing creative solutions to complex human resources issues; ability to gather and analyze data; ability exercise independent judgement and make decisions; knowledge of federal and state wage and compensation laws and regulations; ability to interpret and apply guidelines; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse community; strong time management skills and the ability to oversee competing priorities; ability to quickly learn new processes and methodologies; commitment to highest level of confidentiality.
Preferred qualifications
- PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification Master’s degree.
