New York Foods Project Coordinator ( Full-time):
Position Summary
GrowNYC Wholesale has received a New York Food for New York Families Program (NYFNYF) grant to maintain and improve food and agricultural supply chain resiliency in New York State. This funding is provided by the USDA Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA) and implemented by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. The goals of this program are to support local and traditionally disadvantaged farmers and producers by establishing 20+ free food distribution sites in partnership with community-based organizations in high-need areas. GrowNYC is seeking a NYFNYF Project Coordinator to assist our partner sites with smooth and efficient operations in order to distribute a total of 1.5 million pounds of produce during the 12 month project period. Our goal is to have sites up and running by mid-August 2024. The NYFNYF Project Coordinator will work with the Wholesale Director, Wholesale program staff, and GrowNYC Leadership to develop a sourcing and distribution plan; conduct outreach and training for community partner organizations; coordinate and serve as main point of contact for NYFNYF distributions to community partners; and conduct all necessary report writing and reporting.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
- Oversee execution of NYFNYF contract scope of work, ensuring that activities are in accordance with program requirements and on track with deliverables
- Develop list of target communities for NYFNYF program in consultation with Wholesale, Food Access and Agriculture, and GrowNYC Leadership
- Conduct outreach to community partner organizations
- Work closely with Wholesale program staff in determining NYFNYF product offering and coordinating logistics
- Provide support and training for NYFNYF community partner distribution site activation
- Establish, manage, and maintain strong trusting relationships with all NYFNYF community partners
- Serve as a liaison between community partners and Wholesale program staff in providing feedback regarding GrowNYC Wholesale distribution, including any product and / or delivery issues
- Track and manage program performance metrics including but not limited to budget, pounds of food distributed, and NYC zip codes served
- Prepare and submit baseline, monthly, and quarterly reports as required by the NYFNYF program
- Track and manage other NYFNYF compliance documentation including Distributor Form, Producer Attestation, and Product Formulation Statements
Required Qualifications
- 2-3 years of work experience in food operations and/or program management
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products and applications
- Experience with order management software (e.g. Local Food Marketplace) and/or CRM software or something similar)
- Excellent and responsive organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with a desire and proven ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and knowledge levels
- Good problem solving skills
- Strong commitment to a racially, socially, and environmentally just food system
- Strong initiative and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize based on program mission and goals
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- History of working with people from diverse backgrounds in terms race, ethnicity, gender, including trans and nonbinary, sexual orientation, class, and religion
- Skilled at building partnerships, both internally and externally, including the ability to create and maintain strong collaborative relationships with organizational partners
Ideal Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Spanish, Mandarin, and/or Cantonese proficiency strongly preferred
- Knowledge of sustainable local agriculture/farming, food systems, food access, and/or food justice
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to conduct in-person site outreach and trainings
- Ability to operate a passenger vehicle
Schedule
This position is full-time, year-round, and term-limited (from August 2024-August 2025) with an expected weekly workload of 35-38 hours and 30 minute paid meal break. The position may require occasional flexible hours, including weekends on call. Working days are primarily Monday through Friday.
Compensation
The position is a non-exempt full-time hourly position. It pays $22-$23 per hour and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs).
Location
This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days per week in person at either our Wholesale Bronx warehouse, Manhattan office (with a mandatory presence on Wednesdays), or in the field at NYFNYF partner distribution sites. In-person field-based work and off-site travel will be expected.
