The Driver-Courtesy Van Service provides a variety of duties relating to the operation and care of the wheelchair and courtesy vans. Assists with the transfer of patients in and out of the vehicles, and transports patients at discharge, adhering to Safety Standards and Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines. Additionally this position participates in a variety of programs and services offered by the department and Health System. Transport duties include but are not limited to patients, equipment, and supplies. Provides assistance with patient transfers, as part of the Meritus patient care team.
Education – High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience – Driving of commercial or transport vehicles preferred, familiarity with Tri-State area, ability to drive vehicles during inclement weather conditions, previous transport, patient care, patient observation, customer service experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification – Current BLS (CPR) in compliance with policy. For use of Meritus Vehicles: Valid Driver’s License, A driving record as required by law for vehicle expected to operate. No record of moving violations in the past three years is preferred. Certified copy of driving record is required to be provided by team member annually on date of birth. Acknowledgement with signature to “Attestation A” of Meritus Vehicle Management Use and Control policy.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Must be able to maintain concentration and attention to driving in a sometimes distracting environment. Able to follow directions, read maps with accuracy and the ability to use necessary technology to conduct duties. No physical limitations which would impact ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Dexterity to operate van, wheelchair lift and safety apparatus. Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to ensure/assess patient safety. Customer Service, Customer Focus, Bedside Manner, Happy to help attitude.
