DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Duties of this position include performing major and minor repairs and overhauls, performing preventative maintenance, and performing minor body work and repair. Also, you repair, rebuild, and replace worn or broken parts of diesel engines; repair, overhaul, and perform related work on diesel engines and equipment; and repair both major and minor mechanical defects in Commonwealth fleet vehicles. In addition, you prepare records and reports on repairs and status of vehicles, prepare quotes and order parts as needed with the supervisor’s approval, and assist with the maintenance, repair, and overhaul work on gasoline engines and related equipmentas needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Necessary Special Requirements:
This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification the first day of employment.
This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
You must obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License or equivalent within one year of employment.
You must be able to operate vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
Additional Requirements:
You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Willingness to travel to the sites of disabled or damaged state-owned vehicles throughout Pennsylvania
Possession of a valid Class C non-commercial drivers license
Possession of a current/valid Automotive Inspection License
Possession of a current/valid Pennsylvania Emissions Certification
Formal training (high school vocational program, apprenticeship, or post-high school technical training program) in the automotive mechanic trade
Experience in the automotive mechanic trade (i.e., hands on experience repairing or overhauling and maintaining major automotive systems and components of vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, power shovels, graders, etc.
Experience in the repair and replacement of suspension components such as ball joints, control arms, idler arms, Pitman arms, wheel bearings, etc.
Experience in the repair and replacement of brake system components including disc brakes, drum brakes, calipers, cylinders, etc.
Experience in the maintenance and replacement of electrical systems, alternators, batteries, ignitions, etc.
Experience in the maintenance and replacement of cooling system components, hoses, belts, fans, water pumps, etc.
Experience in the repair and replacement of engines, exhaust systems, transmissions and differentials
Experience in performing preventative maintenance duties such as tune-ups, tire changes and oil changes?
Experience in performing annual state inspections for safety on vehicles
Experience in operating a vehicle hauler or roll-back transporter
Experience in examining and assessing accident damage to vehicles
