Job Description:
The Center for Justice & Reconciliation (CJR) at Point Loma Nazarene University aims to “leverage research, advocacy and innovation, dedicated to justice and reconciliation, to transform our community through social change.” The CJR engages in advocacy planning and action, applied research, student and community leadership development, educational outreach to students and community members, and in supporting those who are vulnerable within the center’s capacity, mission and goals.
We are seeking a committed and proactive individual to join our CJR team as a Research Assistant, supporting the ongoing research projects. The successful candidate will play an important role in various aspects of research including assisting with data management, data analysis, manuscripts, reports and/or grants development and their submission. Additionally, this role will also help facilitate the ongoing evaluation of the CJR’s programs. This position will allow the research assistant to apply her/his/their organizational skills. The successful candidate will have multiple opportunities to contribute to applied research initiatives in the area of anti-trafficking and learn about existing best practices in its areas of prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership.
Responsibilities:
Research Projects (35%)
Assist in the planning, development, and execution of research projects under the guidance of Senior Research Associate, Executive Director, and other CJR staff and interns.
Supports the collection, organization and management of data by utilizing statistical software and other analytical tools.
Maintains accurate records of research methodologies, data, and results.
Support the development of IRB applications.
Assist in the interpretation of results of data analysis to inform practice and policy.
Collaborative and Research-Focused Meetings (25%)
Assists in identifying presenters, building collaborative efforts with San Diego anti-trafficking leaders, and other stakeholders.
Develop materials needed in preparation of meetings/events–flyers, sending listserv messages, website updates, presentations, webinar setup, and so forth.
Assist in the organization of meetings, larger events and establishing collaborations with researchers and other leaders in the community in consultation with the CJR coordinator and Senior Research Associate.
Academic Writing (15%)
Assists in writing research reports, articles, literature review synthesis, and abstracts in consultation with CJR’s Senior Research Associate.
Formatting manuscripts, research briefs when due.
Quarterly Updates (15%)
In coordination with intern(s) gather relevant research findings, funding opportunities, and training to be presented to the San Diego Human Trafficking and CSEC Advisory Council through a “newsletter format”
Coordinate and guide the final edits of the updates with interns to share this information through listservs or as directed by the CJR’s Senior Research Associate.
General Research Support (10%)
Support the development of grant proposals.
Coordination of events and collaborations with community partners.
Support other ongoing evaluation processes of the different programs implemented by the CJR as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Sociology, or relevant fields.
Previous research experience or familiarity with related roles preferred.
Proficiency in data analysis and survey creation and distribution software (SPSS, InVivo, and Qualtrics).
Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
Excellent written skills with the ability to develop clear and concise reports, manuscripts, and/or grant proposals.
Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders.
Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic setting.
Attention to detail and adherence to research protocols.
Growth mindset, receptiveness to feedback, and willingness to learn.
Strong coordination skills with the ability to organize and put together collaborative events from start to finish.
CITI certification required within the first week of work.
