We are seeking a strong scientific contributor to join the New Product Development team to lead on-market development and sustaining activities for oligonucleotide focused products across multiple 10x technology platforms. The New Product Development team acts as the interface between R&D and Operations, focusing on all stages of product development from concept to post-launch activities.
Previous experience with formulation and application of oligonucleotides focused reagents that includes late stage development, development of quality control assays, successful product launches, and ongoing product support is highly desired. Candidates with experience around development of oligonucleotide products for single cell or fixed tissue applications are encouraged to apply. This is a cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of R&D groups as well as Operations and Marketing to develop, validate, manufacture, and ship new 10x products for single cell and spatial biology technology platforms. Candidates must have a broad working knowledge of molecular biology and be able to apply that knowledge independently and creatively toward the development and continuous improvement of high quality oligonucleotide based reagents.
Individuals applying for this position must be self-starters, strategic thinkers, action driven, flexible in changing direction and methods, excel at managing priorities, and provide clear communication and recommendations around scientific results.
What you will be doing:
- Actively contribute to the continuing development of oligonucleotide focused reagents for single cell, spatial, and in situ products from late stage development through post-launch and sustaining activities.
- Provide independent technical leadership on the development, quality control, and transfer of oligonucleotide panels for tissue specific applications.
- Independently troubleshoot and resolve issues around oligonucleotide formulation, long term storage, and quality control issues.
- Conceive, develop, validate, and implement new quality control methods to assess formulations of single and multiplexed oligonucleotide blends.
- Design and conduct experiments to determine understanding of oligonucleotide interactions within complex systems, cause & effect, failure modes, guard band studies, and optimization using DOE methodologies.
- Guide long term development projects that would enable and enhance 10x’s ability to deliver oligonucleotide based catalog and custom content across multiple product lines.
- Foster healthy long term commercial relationships with existing external vendors and establish relationships with new vendors.
- Evaluate new synthesis technologies and establish relationships with new vendors.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Cell biology, Organic Chemistry, or related fields.
- 3 years (PhD) or 6 years (MS) of relevant Biotechnology industry experience.
- Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with oligonucleotides including purification, analytical applications, quality control, formulation for stability and/or performance, and product development.
- Demonstrated success in developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting oligonucleotide panels for novel analytical assays.
- Experience developing and implementing novel QC methods to assess performance of nucleotide panels in both functional and orthogonal assays.
- Ability to write standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train others to successfully plan, execute, and evaluate complex analytical assays.
- Demonstrate exceptionally strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical parts of an organization.
- Product development experience demonstrated by the successful launch of a commercial product where oligonucleotides play a critical technical role.
Preferred Skills & Background:
- Able to demonstrate leadership and success guiding oligonucleotide based products from concept phase through launch.
- Exposure to working with oligonucleotide panels in the context of fixed tissue samples.
- Expertise in antibody screening and relevant experimental workflows.
- Previous work with custom reagent vendors and setting up long term commercial relationships.
- Experience defining and transferring workflows for custom product formulation.
- Experience using statistical tools, such as JMP or R to analyze complex data sets, create DOE experiments, and data trending.
- Previous experience supervising and/or mentoring junior staff
- Hands-on experience with 10X single cell, spatial, or in situ products.
