EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer III - Manufacturing in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position is located at our office in Germantown, MD.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform a lead role in the overall planning, development, implementation and maintenance of the methods, systems and operational sequences required for the optimal production of the products, parts and components necessary for the company’s operations in electronics and surface-mount-technology (SMT) manufacturing and production.
- Plan and implement time and motion studies on specific portions of assembly line and manufacturing systems (for example, selective soldering machines) to identify opportunities to reduce production cycle times; analyze resulting data and prepare recommendations for production changes to company managers.
- Plan and implement processes to collect production data from Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) machines; analyze collected data to identify recurring component defects and design engineering solutions to eliminate the source of the recurring defects in future builds of production machinery and production processes.
- Design program code to control production machinery and assembly processes, to include programming for x-ray machinery to optimally check the quality of soldered components.
- Make recommendations for the tooling process requirements of new or existing product lines.
- Draft the plans and specifications for required customized parts and be responsible for their integration within the production line; for example, the design and fabrication of custom pallets for selective soldering boards to reduce defects.
- Perform Data Cleaning on the manufacturing Bill of Material (BOM) using Python pandas and NumPy to create programs for the Flying Probe Testing to account for the specific parts to be employed in production.
- Conduct explorations of production and/or process problems, define and select new concepts and approaches that may be submitted to management as opportunities to improve manufacturing operations.
- Train and mentor junior level engineers and technicians regarding the organization’s SOPs and best practices for production engineering in the area of electronics and surface mount technology manufacturing.
- Represent the manufacturing team at department level meetings to report on production activities and bottlenecks, project initiatives, and project timelines.
Basic Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering with six months of qualifying experience in the job offered or in a related Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering position.
- As an alternative, A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering with 5 years of experience in a related Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering position will be accepted.
Special Requirements:
- 6 months of domain experience, performing manufacturing or production engineering in an electronics manufacturing/surface mount technology industry.
- 6 months of experience employing Flying Probe Testing tools and processes in electronics manufacturing.
Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
