Job Summary:

Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- A minimum of 1 year RN experience
- Ability to perform all competencies of the position is required for employment in the position
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Previous OB experience preferred
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- NRP certification to be obtained by the completion of the orientation period
Scheduling Requirements:
- Part-time
- Day shift
- 24 hours weekly
Essential Functions:
Nurses caring for the new mother demonstrate knowledge of normal post-partum physiological and psychological maternal adaptation. Assesses maternal-newborn attachment and intervenes if negative behaviors are noted. Fully supports breast-feeding by providing consistent education; discouraging use of supplements and pacifiers; providing encouragement; and utilizing resources for difficult feeding situations.
Provides measures to decrease risk of infant abduction and demonstrates appropriate response in actual/potential situations. Assures newborn identification is present according to policy. Nurses caring for the newborn demonstrate knowledge of the expected physiological changes during the newborn transitional period. Maintains a thermoneutral environment for the newborn. Assures newborn identification is present according to policy/ Obtains blood specimens via heel stick, as ordered, in the correct procedure and location. Assists physician with circumcision, including assurance of informed consent and newborn comfort measures,
